See the America’s Cup Trophy
The America’s Cup will be on display at the California Academy of Sciences as part of the Built for Speed exhibit. Come see the trophy and have your photo taken with this iconic sailing world award. Afterward, examine an AC45 catamaran designed by ORACLE TEAM USA (the America’s Cup defending champions), and compare the forms that make these boats and marine animals fast in fluid.
The America’s Cup is the oldest trophy in international sport, pre-dating the modern Olympics by 45 years, and is yachting’s biggest prize. Originally known as the One Hundred Pound Cup, the schooner America, from the New York Yacht Club, beat 15 British yachts in a race in 1851. Made of sterling silver, it became known as the America's Cup when the owners of America donated it as a "perpetual challenger trophy to promote friendly competition amongst nations."
