Engagement in Learning & Unique Objects

Wednesdays, April 11 - May 9, 2018
4:00pm - 7:00pm

Museums have unique objects from specimens to planetariums that can engage learners in complex topics. How can educators use these objects to build deep engagement in topics? What methods are most successful in helping learners build personal connections and feelings towards topics? How does this create longer-term motivation and curiosity?

During this series educators participate in activities to explore what learning research looks like in practice, and use videos of themselves teaching to reflect upon and brainstorm ways to strengthen their interactions with learners.

This workshop series is part of the Reflecting on Practice program.

About Reflecting on Practice workshops

Reflecting on Practice

Reflecting on Practice is comprised of nationally recognized informal educator workshops that give educators a time and a place to focus on how people learn. The goal of the program is to build a culture of reflection and help educators take advantage of structures that allow them to incorporate research on learning into their teaching practices. The curriculum organizes knowledge from the learning sciences into three topic areas for participants to explore.

Educators need to commit to all five sessions in a single series, and can do just one series, or all of them.

All sessions take place at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.
