Morning Skate Session
Monday – Saturday, 10 am – 12:30 pm
Sunday, 11 am – 12:30 pm
$10 per person (includes skate rental)

Afternoon Skate Session
Daily, 1 pm – 4:30 pm (5:30 pm on December 26 – 28)
$10 per person (includes skate rental)

Please note: Ice rink tickets alone are not valid for admission to the Academy; guests wishing to skate during daytime hours must have a separate General Admission ticket or Academy membership. Ice rink schedule subject to change.

Night owls over 21 can flock to the ice during four supercool NightLife events this winter.

Slide into the work-week in style with three hours of family-friendly fun at the only ice rink in Golden Gate Park. More of a spectator? Chill out on the sidelines with hourly snow flurries, festive food and drink*, cookie and ornament decorating*, and a cameo by Santa Claude.

Entry-only is $5 per person and free for members.

General Ice Rink Questions

How much are tickets for the ice rink?
Daytime ice rink tickets are $10 per person. Each ice skater must have an ice rink ticket, regardless of age.

Where can I buy ice rink tickets?
Non-member guests can buy tickets here, and members can buy tickets here. You may also purchase tickets at the Academy ticket window.

Are there any age restrictions?
The ice rink is open to all ages, but children under 12 must skate with an adult.

Do ice rink tickets include museum admission?
No. A separate general admission or NightLife ticket or proof of Academy membership is required for entry.

Can I skate without buying a ticket to the museum?
Yes and no! During Sunday Skate Nights, you can enjoy after-hours access to the ice rink only—no museum ticket required. If you wish to access the ice rink during the daytime, you must also have a valid general admission or NightLife ticket or proof of Academy membership.

Can I bring a large group?
Yes. Stay tuned for more information about group ice rink tickets. School and youth groups may call (877) 227-3311 to add tickets to their field trip reservation.

Where is the ice rink?
The ice rink is located outside in the Academy’s East Garden. After entering the building, head left past T. rex and follow signage to the rink.

When are daytime skating sessions?
The schedule below is subject to change, so please call our Contact Center at (415) 379-8000 or check the Daily Calendar in advance.

  • Morning Skate: Monday – Saturday, 10 am – 12:30 pm; Sunday, 11 am – 12:30 pm
  • Afternoon Skate: Daily, 1 pm – 4:30 pm
  • Members-only skate: Tuesday, 9 – 10 am; Sunday, 10 – 11 am

Can I enter the ice rink area if I’m not skating?
Non-ticketed guests are welcome to watch from the sidelines, but you must have a wristband to enter the ice.

Do I need to wear socks while skating?
Socks are required if you’re renting skates and are available for purchase for $3 if you don’t have your own.

Can I bring my own skates?
Yes, but please note there is no discount on ice rink tickets.

What size skates are available?
Youth: 10-13; Adult: 1-13.

Do you have any training equipment for young skaters?
Yes, a limited number of Child Ice Skate Trainers are available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis for $10 per session.

Where can I store my belongings while I skate?
Lockers are available to rent for $2. Please note that lockers are only available for use during your skate session; they may not be used for storage while visiting the rest of the museum.

How much are tickets for Sunday Skate Nights?
Sunday Skate Night tickets are $15 per person/$10 for Academy members and include ice skating and skate rental. Entry-only for non-skaters is $5 per person/free for Academy members.

Sunday Skate Nights are family-friendly events. The ice rink is open to all ages, but children under 12 must skate with an adult.

Do Sunday Skate Night tickets include museum admission?
