Join the San Francisco Department of the Environment and the California Academy of Sciences for a grassroots bioblitz on Yerba Buena Island!
About the Bioblitz
What: Yerba Buena Island Bioblitz
When: Wed. April 4, 2018 from 9:00am - 1:00pm
Where: Yerba Buena Island, San Francisco
One of San Francisco’s ecological treasures, Yerba Buena Island is home to an amazing diversity of naitve plants, birds, and more. We'll explore the beach and the upland areas, so come prepared to hike and get your feet wet.
A bioblitz is an intensive one-day study of biodiversity in a specific location. We’ll look for birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, butterflies, insects, spiders, trees, flowers, mushrooms, anything!
People of all ages and skill levels are welcome, but the terrain is a bit treacherous and may be difficult for children under 10! You bring your curiosity, a smart phone with the iNaturalist app downloaded (or digital camera), and tons of enthusiasm. We’ll rally some experts and folks who know the area. Together we’ll make some science!
