An expedition to Costa Rica

Planning

The start of any serious field expedition begins with a lot of planning. Numerous meetings and email exchanges occurred between team members as dates and itineraries were discussed and finalized. Once the team was assembled at INBio, another two days were spent getting everything ready that we needed to take into the field with us.

Methodology

After setting up the camp and field lap at San Pedrillo, we were finally able to begin looking for nudibranchs. The three main methods of exploration are wading in tide pools, snorkeling, and scuba diving off shore. Finding nudibranchs can be challenging since most are small and live hidden in the algae and rocks. Many of them are also well camouflaged.
