Eastwood Associates

Alice Eastwood, curator and head of the Botany Department at the Academy in 1894, saved 1,497 type specimens from the fire caused by the 1906 earthquake. She dedicated herself to rebuilding the botany collections, embarking on many ambitious collecting trips in the years to follow. Her legacy didn’t end there: Eastwood also named the Academy as a beneficiary of her will.

Alice Eastwood serves as the inspiration and namesake for our Eastwood Associates, a society of visionary donors whose planned gifts are vital investments in the future of the Academy. Like Alice, these individuals believe in the power of our museum to advance scientific knowledge in California and around the world. We’re grateful for the support of the donors listed below as we work to regenerate the natural world through science, learning, and collaboration.

To share your intention to include the Academy in your estate plan and join the Eastwood Associates, please let us know by emailing eastwoodassociates@calacademy.org!
