We’re proud to open our doors to the entire Bay Area community and provide access to world-class science education and cutting-edge exhibits for everyone. Learn about our free and low-cost admission opportunities, school and youth field trips, and other access programs.
Neighborhood Free Weekends
All San Francisco residents receive free admission to the Academy on a designated Neighborhood Free Weekend every year. Determined by zip code of residence, these free weekends grant free admission on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of a given weekend and are offered every year.
Community Tickets are a new way to provide free Academy admission for families and individuals for whom cost of admission is a barrier. In partnership with health and social service agencies in all nine Bay Area counties, we're excited to make science even more accessible by offering free tickets on select dates.
Community Tickets are made possible thanks to support from Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
We’re committed to making our exhibits, programs, and digital offerings accessible to everyone. We provide a range of services to welcome individuals with disabilities, including wheelchair access, accessible parking, and accommodations for service animals.
Present a valid military ID or proof of service (i.e., VA card or DD-214) at the ticket window when you arrive to receive $3 off Daytime Admission. Please note: This offer is for active-duty military personnel only and does not apply to family, friends, or dependents.
Discover & Go Library Program
Free admission passes to the Academy and a variety of other cultural institutions are available through the Discover & Go program at participating neighborhood libraries in low- to moderate-income areas across the Bay Area. Library cardholders 14 and older can check out passes good for free Academy admission for one adult and one youth (17 and under). Contact your local library branch for details.
The Academy is part of Museums for All, a cooperative initiative that ensures every child and family has access to a world-class museum experience. We're proud to offer $3 Academy admission tickets to EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer), WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), and Medi-Cal cardholders.
Present your EBT, WIC, or Medi-Cal card at the Academy ticket window to purchase your $3 tickets. Limit 4 per group per visit. Available every day of the year.
Community Access Ticket Service (CATS)
CATS provides cultural experiences and museum visits to places like the Academy to tens of thousands of people who otherwise could not afford to visit through partnerships with social service organizations like Boys and Girls Clubs, Salvation Army, YMCA, and more.
School and Youth Field Trips
School field trip reservations are available for formal California school groups of students in grades pre-K through 12, including preschool. Field trips can be scheduled on most dates with the exception of holidays and some school breaks. You can even book a weekend visit! All school groups from the City and County of San Francisco receive free admission to the Academy. All other California school groups receive a discounted group rate.
The Arthur and Toni Rembe Rock Enhanced Museum Visits Program supports field trips for elementary schools in San Francisco. Free transportation, admission, and educational materials are all provided by this program.
Children 2 and under
All children ages 2 and under receive free admission to the Academy, everyday.
Every Thursday night from 6-10 pm, night owls 21 and over can visit the museum for a reduced price during NightLife. In addition to access to all Academy exhibits and planetarium shows, NightLife attendees enjoy live music and a different science theme each week.
Academy memberships are a smart investment, paying for themselves in 2-3 visits. With an annual membership subscription, members can spread the cost of a membership out over an entire year, with an initial down payment and easy monthly installments starting at less than $6 a month.
By lowering barriers to entry—whether cost, access, language, or culture—we’re creating an Academy for All.
